Hosted phone system - What happens if my internet goes down?

Telephone is the life line of the business, using broadband for the phone system always raises the question What happens if my internet goes down?

Configuring a network backup number addresses this concern. Just as the name suggests network back up number is set to direct calls when internet connectivity is lost at your local premises. Although broadband services have evolved and become more reliable it is recommended that a back up number be set.

How network back up number works?

  • System poll the device or phone connected to the phone system at intervals. In the event registration fails due to loss of connectivity the system them checks the configuration to see if a back up number is provided.
  • Calls will automatically be diverted to the back up number and return to the normal setting upon re-registering successfully
  • (Optional:) you can choose to be alerted then the registration fails so that you can communication with your broadband provider right away

Summary: The system automatically detects if the phone or device is not connected and if backup number is set then calls are diverte; otherwise caller is prompted to leave a voicemail (default)

How to setup the network backup number

Using the self management portal the administrator can configure the number. Note: Callers will still have the ability to leave voicemail if configured.,
